Abstract
From the mid-19th century to the early 20th century, during the transition to modernity, the Nosa School(蘆沙學派) scholars led by Ki Jeong-jin(奇正鎭, 1798–1879), a representative literary group of the Yulgok academic lineage, continuously conducted lectures and studies, thereby ensuring the continuation and expansion of the school’s scope. The immediate disciples of the Nosa School, who inherited Ki Jeong-jin’s tradition of teaching, regularly held lecture meetings(講會) to promote academic uniformity among the literati and to continue producing scholars. The contents of these lecture meetings were compiled into lecture records(講錄) and shared within the school. In this paper, I have compiled a comprehensive record of the lecture materials conducted during the lifetime of Gi Jeong-jin, as well as the lecture activities carried out after his death. I focused on the various forms of lecture meetings led by Jeong Jae-gyu(鄭載圭, 1843-1911) and others, which were primarily organized around the Gang-u region, fostering scholarly cohesion and academic homogeneity within the school. Based on this examination of the patterns of lecture meetings within the Nosa School, I roughly presented the characteristics and main contents of the Hoegye Gangsa(會稽講社) lecture meetings, which are representative of the Gang-u area and served as the foundation for later lectures held in this region. Additionally, I addressed the ‘Jongsan Ganghoe(鍾山講會),’ a prominent Nosa School lecture gathering held by many scholars from Gang-u and Honam, thereby confirming the significance and influence of the Nosa School’s lecture meetings. Furthermore, to advance research on the Nosa School’s lecture meetings during this period, I proposed the systematic collection, organization, and translation of related materials, along with content analysis of these resources.
