오페라의 탄생에 관한 카메라타의 재조명- 아리스토텔레스 『시학』의 영향을 중심으로

카메라타가 새로운 음악극의 모델로 삼은 것은 고대 그리스 비극이다. 그것이 대부분 노래로 이루어진 연극양식이었다는 사실은 매우 중요한 모티브였다. 본 논문은 오페라의 탄생과 카메라타에 대한 기존 연구와 관련해서, 아리스토텔레스의 『시학』에 대해 주목하지 않았다는 사실에 의문을 가지며 시작되었다. 왜냐하면 『시학』은 서양 공연예술의 원전이자 고대 비극의 공연양식에 관한 이론적 고찰이 최초로 담겨져 있기 때문이다. 『시학』을 살펴보면 비극에서 음악의 중요성은 아리스토텔레스가 절대시했던 플롯과 견줄 만하다. 카메라타의 구성원들 중 몇몇이 남긴 사료에서 아리스토텔레스의 『시학』과 관련된 내용이 언급 되었으며, 카메라타는 『시학』의 핵심 내용에 민감하게 반응한 것으로 보인다. 특히 『시학』6장은 카메라타의 구성원들이 고민했던 많은 부분을 함축하고 있다. 카메라타는 음악과 극을 통해 카타르시스를 경험할 때 감동을 느낀다는 아리스토텔레스의 공연미학에 주목한 것이다.
Abstract
The Florentine Camerata created a new music theater that was modeled on Greek tragedies. One important motive was that Greek tragedy consisted of many musical numbers. This thesis examines the influence of Aristotle's Poetics on the birth of the opera, a hitherto unexplored area of inquiry. The Poetics is the first text on Western Performing Arts and, and moreover, includes the earliest theoretical study on Greek tragedy. In the Poetics, the importance of music appears to be almost equivalent to Aristotle's primary focus, plot. Documents published by members of the Camerata reveal references to the Aristotle, contemplating key aspects of the Poetics. In particular, the sixth chapter of the Poetics implied the content of the core. The Camerata regarded his aesthetic of performing arts for catharsis that describes the effect of tragedy with music and drama.
