Abstract
Discussions on the curriculum have been in full swing to take into account the capacity building of learners and the growth of learning experiences. This trend reflects the demand of the times to accept constructivism as a principle of curriculum as well as teaching. This problematic awareness of how to input competence as a performance function in a real-life context in curriculum design has been triggered, particularly in situational cognitive studies. According to situated cognition, competence refers to the totality between internal capabilities and external characteristics of human beings, such as cognition and situation, mind and body, knowledge and experience, and others. In this article, we examine how the concept of competence was summoned in situational theory and the various languages surrounding the curriculum were to be re-conceived. In particular, we discuss three dimensions of what might be overlooked in designing the curriculum while equating capabilities with performance features: First, competence as reflective responses to objects; second, the difference between performance and practice; and third, agency capacity as participatory and receptive subjectivity.
