Abstract
Unlike Plato who is often said to have pursued an immutable Idea, Aristotle is known for acknowledging things in the real world as they are and emphasizing our experience and sensory perception of them. In fact Aristotle studied various material objects and celestial bodies from the standpoint of acknowledging sensory data, and also studied politics and law based on reality for the state and society. And in Rhetoric, which studies the power of words and the principle of persuasion in a society that moves people, as a result of analyzing the phenomenon or reality of persuasion by speech in the public area, the three elements of persuasion are ‘the logic of content’ (logos), ‘the speaker's personality’ (ēthos), and ‘the audience's emotion’ (pathos). In this persuasion elements, the emotion can change the judgment in their minds when properly applied through systematic analysis of the audience together with other persuasion elements. And, in the end, it means that the speaker can persuade the audience in the way he wants. It may then be thought of as encouraging the judgment of these patterns, chosen through the change of emotions. However, this idea conflicts with the references to the emotions in other works of Aristotle, and it is difficult to accept considering Aristotle's theory of judgment as a whole. This thesis will show that Aristotle's philosophy has to figure out the thoughts on the human body, senses, and emotions, and then decide how to understand the problems of emotion and judgment appearing in his Rhetoric.
