이 글의 과제는 아리스토텔레스가 『수사학』 II 2장에서 개진하는 분노론을 그의 일반적 감정 이해에 비추어 분석하는 일이다. 환원하면 분노라는 개별 감정의 정체를 확인하는 동시에, 아리스토텔레스의 분노론에 그가 감정을 이해하는 일반적 입장이 어떤 식으로 반영되어 있는지 예시적으로 살피는 것이다. 논의는 대체로 고통과 쾌락, 대상 지향성, (사실)판단, 가치평가의 물음을 중심으로 전개된 다음, 분노를 규정하는 세 가지 계기―심적 상태, 대상인물, 단초―를 특정하는 것으로 마무리된다. 결국 논의는 분노의 인지성을 부각하는 쪽으로 수렴된다.
Abstract
This work aims to examine the definition of anger given in Aristotle’s “Rhetoric” II 2, in view of his general explanation of emotions. It aims, in other words, to determine the emotion of anger and to comprehend the Aristotelian understanding of emotions, as exemplified by the definition of anger. The questions of pleasure and pain perception, intentionality, judgment, and assessment in the arousal of anger are examined. Furthermore, in anger, three moments—the object, the mental state, and the target person—are distinguished, and the speaker must have all three to arouse emotion. Finally, it follows that the arousal of anger depends on cognitivity
