고전시가와 민족정서 교육-1920년대 시조 및 민요 재발견의 공과(功過)를 바탕으로-

이 논문은 고전시가를 통한 ‘민족정서’ 교육의 가능성을 타진하는 데 목적을 두었다. 먼저 일본의 사례를 통해 민족정서와 고전시가 교육의 밀접한 상관성을 검토하고, 고전시가 속의 특수한 정서를 과도하게 보편화하면 도그마적인 민족주의에 빠지게 된다는 점을 밝혔다. 다음으로는 1920년대 시조 및 민요 재발견의 공과(功過)를 따져보았다. 당시 ‘전통’과 ‘향토’와 ‘역사’를 기반으로 민족정서를 탐구한 것은 오늘날 주목하는 문화적 민족 개념을 선취한 의의가 있다. 그러나 민족정서의 보편성을, 시대적 특수성을 지니는 율격의 문제로만 축소한 것은 한계였다. 마지막으로 민족정서의 보편적인 측면과 특수한 측면을 조화시키는 고전시가 교육의 가능성을 살폈다. 그 결과, ‘전통’과 ‘향토’의 산물인 고전시가가 시대를 초월한 보편적 정서를 내재하고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 같은 계열의 정서를 지닌 고전시가 및 현대시 작품들을 통해 민족정서의 ‘역사’를 살핀다면, 민족정서의 보편성과 특수성을 조화시키는 고전시가 교육이 가능할 것으로 전망하였다.
Abstract
This paper aims to introspect on the possibility of National Emotion education through Korean classical songs. Firstly, it examines the close relationship between National Emotion and classical songs education through Japanese examples. It has been confirmed that if we universalize the emotions of classical songs excessively, we will fall into the trap of dogmatic Nationalism. Secondly, it examines the merits and demerits of rediscovery of Sijo and Minyo in 1920's. The merit of the research on National Emotion based on the 'tradition', 'native land' and 'history' of that era is that the nationalists in 1920's pre-engaged the concept of nations as culturally homogeneous groups of people which is valued in present society. However, its demerit is that they minimized the universality of National Emotion to a matter of meter which is specific to the times. Finally, it examines the possibility of Korean classical songs education which harmonizes the universal and specific aspects of National Emotion. As a result, it has been confirmed that the emotions of Korean classical songs derived from the 'tradition' and 'native land' have the potential for timeless universality. Moreover, if we introspect on the 'history' of National emotion through the series of Korean songs which have similar emotions, Korean classical songs education which harmonizes the universal and specific aspects of National Emotion will be possible.
