민족 정서의 이해와 습득을 위한 시조 교육 이 정 환 국어과 내에서 문학 교육은 ‘민족 교육’을 상당 부분 담당한다. 국어과의 교육과정 속에서 이루어지는 문학 교육은 선인들의 문학 유산을 통해서 민족 정서를 이해하고 창조한다는 목표를 필수적으로 고려해야 하는 것이다. 그런 관점에서 선인들의 문학 유산 중에서도 오늘날까지도 그 명맥을 유지하면서 발전해 오고 있는 시조에 대한 바른 인식은 중요하다고 본다. 시조는 현대문학의 한 장르로서 엄연히 존재한다. 시조가 오늘날에도 크게 발전하고 있는 것은 정형시로서 우리 민족의 숨결과 정서, 사상에 걸맞은 시의 형태를 고루 갖추고 있기 때문이다. 문학교육의 목표인 ‘문학적 문화의 고양, 상상력의 발달, 삶의 총체적 이해, 심미적 정서의 함양, 민족 정서의 이해와 습득’은 그 어느 것 하나 중요하지 않는 것이 없다. 그 중에서도 특히 ‘민족 정서의 이해와 습득’ 면에서 볼 때 특히 시조교육은 그 한 방안으로 제시될 수 있을 것이다. 초등학교 뿐만 아니라 중․고등학교 교과서에서도 시조를 다루는 비중이 매우 낮은 실정이다. 객관적인 잣대가 있는 것이 아니므로 일반 시에 비해 몇 퍼센트 정도 포함시킬 것인가 하는 문제는 심도 있게 논의될 일이다. 그리고 게재 작품의 수준 즉 학년성에 맞는 작품을 선정하는 것도 중요하다. 일선 학교에서 수업 시간이나 특기 적성 교육 시간 등을 활용하여 시조 감상과 창작 지도에 힘써야 할 것이다. 또한 시조 시인이나 아동 문학가들은 좋은 동시조 작품들을 창작하여 널리 보급하는 일에 힘을 기울여야 할 줄로 믿는다.
Abstract
Teaching sijo for the Understanding and Learning of National Emotion Lee, Joung-Hwan Culture education within the category of Korean education takes a great part of national education. Culture education which is one of the courses of Korean education should consider the objective of the understanding and creation of national emotion through the literature inherited from our ancestors. With this point of view proper understanding of sijo which has kept and developed by these days is important. sijo exists as a genre of contemporary literature. The reason why sijo has well developed until these days is sijo is well equipped with the fixed form of poetry which is well matched with our national breathing, emotion, and philosophy. We cannot overemphasize these objectives of national education : the promotion of literary culture, development of imagination, the whole understanding of life , cultivating esthetic feelings , and the understanding and learning national emotion. Especially the education of sijo can be presented as a way for the aspect of the understanding and learning national emotion. It is true that sijo is not taught enough not only in the elementary schools but in the middle and high schools. Since we don't have objective measure , it has to be discussed deeply how much we have to teach sijo comparing to other poetry. And it is also important to select the work properly according to the grade level. We have to make an effort on teaching the appreciation and creation of sijo in the classroom and extra curricular activities. The poets and writers of children's literature should devote themselves to create and spread good sijo works.
