もくろみ動詞 「してみる」の条件形の派生用法― 「してみると」の形の場合 ―

현대 일본어의 의도동사 「してみる」는 그 구문적 위치와 기능에 따라 어형변화를 한다. 예를 들어 복문에서 두 사건 간의 조건관계를 나타내는 경우 「してみる」는 종속문의 서술어로서 「してみると」 「してみれば」 「してみたら」 등의 조건형으로 활용한다. 이들 접속형 중, 「してみると」의 용법을 살펴보면 넓은 의미의 인과관계를 나타내는 경우도 있으나 평서문․종지에서는 나타나지 않는 「いわれてみると」와 같은 수동동사, 「気づいてみると」와 같은 무의지동사와 같은 유형의 동사가 쓰인다. 이와 같이 평서문․종지에서는 나타나지 않는 유형의 동사가 「してみると」의 형태를 취할 때 나타나는 경우에 관해 많은 선행연구에서 지적되어 왔으나 이러한 동사가 「してみると」의 형태를 취할 때 구체적으로 어떠한 문법적 의미를 나타내는지 충분한 설명이 이루어졌다고 보기는 어렵다. 이에 본고에서는 (1)「してみると」가 의도동사의 조건형으로 쓰인 용법, (2)「してみると」의 조건형으로서의 용법과 파생용법과의 관계, (3)「してみると」의 파생용법에서 보이는 종속문의 변이와 그 의미․용법을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 결과적으로 「してみると」가 지금의 현실세계를 주체에게 바람직한 현실세계로 변화시키기 위해 주체가 선택한 동작․활동을 나타내는 의도동사의 조건형으로서 쓰인 경우, 주문에는 그러한 동작․활동을 계기로 해서 성립하는 사건이나 확인하게 되는 사건이 제시된다. 한편 「してみると」가 위와 같은 의도동사로서의 성질을 상실하는 경우, 종속문을 「してみると」의 형식으로 제시하면 주문에는 주체에게 있어 예상하지 못한, 의외의 현실에 맞닥뜨려서 주체가 놀라거나 당혹스러워하거나 당황해하는 태도를 나타낸다. 이러한 문장에서 「してみると」는 주체의 의외성을 나타내는 내용이 앞으로 서술되는 것을 나타내는 표시로 기능한다.
Abstract
According to its syntactic position and function, the contemporary Japanese conative verb sitemiru inflects different forms. When expressing a conditional relationship between two events in a complex sentence, siteimuru inflects the conditional form of sitemiruto, sitemireba, sitemitara, and so on as the predicate of the subordinate clause. Among these conditional forms, the use of sitemiruto demonstrates that there are cases where it expresses causal relationships in a broad sense, but other types of verbs―passive verbs, non-volitional verbs―that are not used in declarative sentences can be used. Many previous studies have pointed out cases where verbs that are not used in declarative sentences are used with the form of sitemiruto. However, when such verbs take the form sitemiruto, it has yet to be adequately explained what grammatical meaning it represents. Based on this situation, we consider (1) the usage of sitemiruto as a conditional form of sitemiru, the conative verb, (2) the relationship between the typical usages of sitemiruto and its derived usages, and (3) syntactic features, semantic variations and usages of subordinate sentences found in derived usages of sitemiruto. As a result, when sitemiruto is used as the conditional form of the conative verb that expresses an action that the subject chooses to change the current reality into the desired reality, the main clause expresses an event that occurs as a result of the action described in the subordinate clause, as well as a state of being that is recognized by the action presented in the subordinate clause. However, when it comes to that sitemiruto loses its features of the conative verb, if sitemiruto is used as a predicate of the subordinate sentence, what is described in the main clause is an unexpected reality for the speaker. So, the main clause expresses the subject’s surprise, bewilderment, or dismay. In such a sentence, sitemiruto functions as a marker indicating that the following sentence will describe the content that expresses the subject’s unprepared mind.
