본 연구에서는 힌디어에 나타나는 코드 스위칭에 대하여 통사형태론적인 패턴을 분석한다. 코드 스위칭은 하나 이상의 언어를 구사할 줄 아는 사람들이 서로 다른 언어의 단어, 구, 절 또는 문장을 섞어 쓰는 현상으로 다언어 사회의 대표적인 사회언어학적 특징이라 할 수 있다. 일반적으로 코드 스위칭의 발생위치 및 범위에 대해 미리 예측하는 것은 힘들어 보이지만, 그 구조적 패턴을 찾아내는 것은 가능하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 힌디어에서 코드 스위칭이 발생하는 위치를 유형별로 파악하여 다양한 패턴을 정리분석하기로 한다. 비록 힌디어와 영어 간의 스위칭이 무분별하게 나타나는 것처럼 보이지만, 일정한 틀에서 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 코드 스위칭에 대한 패턴을 바탕으로, 힌디어 문법에서의 수용관계 및 언어학적 제한을 살펴보는 동시에 새로운 유형의 제한을 제시하고자 한다. 즉 등가제한, 제한의 크기, 자립형태소제한, 접속사제한, 관계절제한 등을 바탕으로, 힌디어에 나타나는 코드 스위칭의 구조적 성격을 규명하고 시제동사제한을 본 연구를 통해 처음으로 제안하고자 한다.
Abstract
This paper tries to identify the structural features of morphosyntactic patterns underlying the grammar of code switching in Hindi. Code switching as one of the most engaging aspects of bilingual society is the result of a user's verbal competence with that he switches from one set of co-occurring rules to another. Despite the fact that the user's behaviour seems to be unpredictable that there exists no contextual definition of when and where code switching would occur, it is possible to analyze the structural dimensions of code switching. In this paper, we investigate the various patterns of code switching between Hindi and English on the basis of data analyzed at the level of word, phrase, clause and sentence. This paper aims to show that code-switching is not a grammarless phenomenon rather it is ruled governed activity. All the present data shows that the occurrences of various Hindi phrase, clauses and sentences impose no ungrammatical effect on the construction of English syntax. This study also attempts to test the validity and university of linguistics constraints that lead to variation in code switching patterns based on the equivalence constraint, the size of constraint, the free morpheme constraint, the conjunction constraint, the relative clause constraint. In addition, the auxiliary constraint is newly proposed in this paper.
