이 글은 뱅베니스트의 제도어휘론 속에서 이채를 발하고 있는 통치 개념, 곧 ‘초-왕위(sur-royauté)’ 및 ‘왕들의 왕’을 출발점으로 삼아 그것들이 신 혹은 신적인 것과 상보적으로 이루게 되는 통치관계를 검토한 것이다. 통치권의 실제적 집행과 그것을 후견하는 권위가 맺는 다각적인 관계를 중심에 두고서, 1장은 권위·아욱토리타스의 어근 아우게오(augeo, ‘더 높이고·키우고·더해지게 하다’)를 중심으로 왕중왕과 신의 일체화 상태를 살폈고, 2장은 그런 일체화의 과정이 ‘인민의 구제와 후생’을 목표이자 동력으로 설정한 목자(포이멘 라온)에 의해 인민 복종의 요구로서 행해지고 있음을 분석했다. 3장은 제도어휘론의 사례실증이라는 맥락에서 왕중왕 다리우스 1세와 신 아후라마즈다의 결합관계 속에서 행해졌던 내란의 진압과 정권의 재취득을 분석했다. 4장은 3장에서 세 부분으로 나눠 분석된 ‘신-왕중왕’의 통치관계를 종합하면서, 질서의 회복을 위한 폭력/정변의 정당성이 신적인 것에 근거하여 정초되고 있는 사정을 검토했다.
Abstract
This article takes as a starting point the concept of government in Émile Benveniste’ vocabulary of social institutions, that is, ‘sur-royauté’ and ‘King of kings’. The focus of the analysis is on the governing relations in which the concepts are complementary to the God or the divine. Thus, this article emphasizes the relationship between the enforcement of sovereignty and the authority that supports it. Chapter 1 discussed the unity of the King of Kings and the Gods, focusing on the root of authority/auctoritas, augeo (meaning ‘to exalt’ ‘to increase’ ‘to encourage’ ‘to promote’). Chapter 2 analyzed that the process of unification is the fulfillment of the demand for obedience by the pastor(poimēn laōn), who set the goal and method of ‘he salvation of people’. Chapter 3 analyzed the suppression of civil war and the reacquisition of power in the union relationship between Darius I and Ahura Mazda in the empirical context of vocabulary of social institutions’s analysis. Chapter 4 summarizes the governing relationship of ‘God and King of kings’ analyzed in three parts in Chapter 3, and discussed that the legitimacy of violence/coup d’état for the restoration of order is based on the divine.
