Abstract
This study argues that virtual humans succeed not through technical realism (e.g., high-resolution rendering) but through sensory congruence—the alignment of visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile impressions, and affective context across time, space, and meaning. From a design-for-emotion perspective, we integrate literature in emotional design, cognitive psychology, form language, and branding, and apply a comparative analysis of public materials. The scope covers fivecases (virtual influencers and one animation character: three successes, two with limitations). Methodologically, using Norman’s visceral–behavioral–reflective model, we recast form as an Emotive Form-Language (EFL) and propose a Sensory–Emotional Matrix crossing sensory inputs with emotional layers to map how color, timbre, motion, and scene tone move from immediate affect (visceral) to interaction fluency/control (behavioral) and ultimately to identification via worldview/value alignment (reflective). Findings show that greater sensory congruence increases processing fluency, lowers cognitive load, and strengthens liking, trust, and immersion; additionally, ethical/cultural sensitivity, narrative consistency, and UGC via deliberate narrative gaps support fandom persistence and co-authorship. The contribution aligns evaluative vocabularies across HCI, cognitive psychology, and design, and offers a repeatable execution framework linking target-emotion multimodal specifications to metric-based quality management. Limitations include a small sample and reliance on secondary data. Future work should use larger cross-cultural/genre samples, mixed-methods validation, controlled and in-situ experiments, integrated social-media/platform analytics, and tests of individual-difference moderation to strengthen external validity.
