Abstract

This study intends to establish the role of school counselors in supporting disabled students and to seek an activation plan for counseling support of consolidated classes. The results of this research are summarized as follows. First, the investigation of school counselors’ support for disabled students shows that most of the school counselors who are employed in Office of Education, Wee Centers, or senior secondary schools where disabled students are placed usually collect information necessary for counseling disabled students by combining consulting activities with disabled students’ school life adaptation targeting special education teachers and consolidated class teachers. Second, the recognition of school counselors on support for disabled students reveals most of them consider counseling for disabled students as a necessary role. Also, they consider that counseling case management for disabled students is the responsibility of special education teachers, while their role is to assist in finding a solution for students’ problems and the alleviation of their troubles. Therefore, in order to obtain professionalism of school counselors, they need a program to let them complete training related to compulsory counseling of exceptional children, to support counseling training for the teachers who hope and to support efficient counseling for disabled students from now on. It is necessary to reinforce cooperative system with class teachers and special education teachers, putting counseling teachers as the center of counseling activity.
