Abstract

A decaying process is known to be determined by accumulated temperature rather than elapsed time, and ADD can be a valid factor for estimating PMI. This method can, thus, provide scholars and practitioners with objective PMI estimates by increasing its reliability. This study sets out to develop a mobile phone application that calculates the PMI for decayed bodies. We estimated PMI for 20 cases with identified information about each body’s time of death using the application. It was found that differences of 0.50±1.19 by day and 0.58±1.03 by hour existed between the estimated PMI and the actual date of death. Also, Bland Altman plot was used to test the accuracy of estimated PMI, showing that 15 cases (75%) were within the 95% confidence interval. Specifically, the estimation was accurately matched in 15 cases (75%) by day, but only two cases appeared to be matched when estimating by hour (time).
