초록
Recent Korean American diaspora dramas show unique Korean American young generation's pathos, that is, the will of remaining in the unaffiliated state that questions all kinds of binary value systems. This study attempts to describe those young problematic characters using recent American slang, “Fwinky.” As a compound of two derogatory slangs for Asian American, “FOB” and “Twinky,” this term “Fwinky” can reveal the Korean American diasporic characters' new concept of belonging. It presents Korean American diaspora's denial to choose one of the two paradigms; assimilation and isolation. It also shows that they find out the place between two paradigms and stay there. These new “Fwinkies' stages” made by recent Korean American playwrights not only expose their new way of thinking of diasporic identities but also show a possibility of the dramatic initiative of Korean American diasporic dramas.
