어머니의 정서사회화 행동이 아동의 정서조절방략에 미치는 영향: 공감의 매개효과

초록

어머니의 정서사회화 행동이 아동의 정서조절방략에 미치는 영향과 이 두 변인의 관계를 공감이 매개하는지를 살펴보았다. D광역시의 초등학교 4, 5, 6학년 학생 309명에게 부모의 정서표현성 척도, 아동의 부정적 정서표현에 대한 반응척도, 정서조절방략 척도와 공감척도를 실시하였다. 첫째, 어머니의 정서사회화 행동은 정서조절방략과 공감에 영향을 미쳤다. 어머니가 긍정적 정서표현을 많이 하고, 아동들의 부정적 정서표현에 지지적 반응을 보일수록 아동들은 인지적 재해석 방략을 더 많이 사용하였고 인지적 공감을 더 잘 하였다. 둘째, 아동의 공감이 정서조절방략에 영향을 미쳤다. 아동들이 인지적 공감을 잘 할수록 인지적 재해석 방략을 더 많이 사용하였다. 셋째, 어머니의 긍정적 정서표현, 아동의 부정적 정서표현에 대한 지지적 반응과 인지적 재해석 방략의 관계에서 인지적 공감이 부분매개효과를 보였다.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationships among mothers’ emotion-related socialization behaviors, children’s empathy and emotion regulation strategies and to test the mediating effect of empathy between two other variables. The survey with questionnaire was conducted with 309 children of grades 4, 5, and 6 from elementary schools in Daegu. Maternal socialization behaviors were measured by the short form of the Self-Expressiveness in the Family Questionnaire and the Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale. Children’s empathy and emotion regulation strategies were measured by the Interpersonal Reactivity Index and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. The main results were as follows. First, mothers’ supportive socialization behaviors influenced significantly children’s empathy and emotional-regulation strategies: Mothers’ expression of positive emotions and supportive responses to children’s negative emotional expressions explained children’s cognitive empathy and the use of reappraisal strategy. Second, children’s empathy influenced significantly the use of emotion-regulation strategies: Children’s cognitive empathy explained the use of reappraisal strategy. Finally, empathy mediated the relations between mothers’ socialization behaviors and children’s use of emotion-regulation strategies: Cognitive empathy mediated the relations between mothers’ expression of positive emotions and mothers’ supportive responses to children’s negative emotional expressions and the children’s use of reappraisal strategy.
