초등학생이 지각한 어머니의 긍정적 정서표현이 사회적 유능성에 미치는 영향: 정서인식명확성과 정서표현성의 매개효과

초록

본 연구는 아동이 지각한 어머니의 긍정적인 정서표현이 아동의 사회적 유능성에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 아동의 정서인식명확성과 정서표현성이 어머니의 긍정적인 정서표현과 아동의 사회적 유능성 간의 관계를 매개하는지를 확인하였다. 최종 분석에 포함된 연구 대상은 서울 관악구와 금천구에 위치한 W초등학교와 M초등학교에 재학 중인 5, 6학년 학생들 299명 이었고 이중 불성실한 응답을 제외한 293명의 자료를 분석에 사용하였다. AMOS 21.0 프로그램을 이용하여 구조모형을 분석한 결과, (1) 아동이 지각한 어머니의 긍정적인 정서표현은 아동의 사회적 유능성에 정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, (2) 아동의 정서인식명확성과 정서표현성은 어머니의 긍정적인 정서표현과 아동의 사회적 유능성을 부분매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 이 결과는 첫째, 어머니의 긍정적인 정서표현이 아동의 사회적 유능성에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 점을 경험적으로 확인함으로써 아동의 발달에서 어머니의 양육태도가 중요함을 재확인했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 둘째, 초등학생이 학교 장면에서 보다 적응적인 대인관계를 형성하기 위해서 교사 및 상담자가 아동이 자신의 정서를 명확하게 인식하고 적절한 방식으로 이를 표현하도록 격려하는 것이 중요하다는 점을 시사한다. 구체적으로, 긍정적 또래관계 및 사회적 유능성을 신장시키기 위해서 특히 정서인식과 정서표현능력 향상을 주요 목표로 하는 프로그램을 구성할 필요가 있다. 끝으로 본 연구의 제한점 및 후속연구에 대한 제안점을 논의하였다.

Abstract

This study examined the effect that a mothers’ positive emotional expressivity has on children’s social competence and further tested whether children’s emotional clarity and emotional expressivity partially mediated the link between mothers’ positive emotional expressivity and children’s social competence. A survey was administered to 299 students at the 5th and 6th grades in two elementary schools (W-and M-school of Gwanak-Gu and Gumcheon-Gu in Seoul). A total of 293 valid cases were subject to data analysis. The results, using the AMOS 21.0 program, revealed that (a) mothers’ positive emotional expressivity, as perceived by their children positively affected children’s social competence, and (b) both children’s emotional clarity and emotional expressivity partially mediated the relationship between their mothers’ positive emotional expressiveness and their children’s social competence. The empirical findings of the current study have implications for (a) the impact of mothers’ positive rearing with regard to their emotionality and the impact upon their children, and (b) the identification of the best targets for intervention (i.e., children’s emotional expressiveness and emotional clarity) that can be utilized by teachers and counselors when trying to help children develop their social skills.
