The purpose of this study is to show that 'geureoh-' can be used as a substitute for adjectives that express the speaker's negative attitude and judgment without preceding words, and to identify the meaning, function, and its characteristics in terms of morphology and syntax. This study suggested that 'geureoh' is used as a hedging strategy to reduce the burden of negative statements by substituting adjectives with some negative attitudes or judgments. In addition, when it is used in this way, the morphological and syntactic characteristics of 'geureoh' are different from the original 'geureoh'. Finally, this change of meaning of 'geureoh' can be explained by Subjectivization theory.
