성경의 신적 권위에 관한 개혁주의 해석: 헤르만 바빙크와 벤자민 워필드의 관점 비교

초록

로저스와 맥킴은 바빙크와 워필드의 성경론이 전혀 다른 전통 위에 세워져 있다고 주장했다. 중심적인 교회 전통(the central church tradition)에 속하는 바빙크와는 달리, 개혁파 스콜라주의 전통에 속하는 프린스톤 학파의 워필드는 성경을 철학적으로 이해했다는 것이다. 하지만 이들의 관점들은 바빙크와 워필드의 글을 올바로 이해하지 못한 것일 뿐만 아니라, 더 나아가 성경의 무오성에 모종의 변화를 주어 원하든 원하지 않든, 성경의 신적 권위를 저해한다. 본고의 목적은 바빙크와 워필드의 글을 통해 성경 무오성을 증명하거나 두 신학자의 차이점을 부각시켜서 프린스톤 대 암스테르담 식의 구별을 하는 것이 아니다. 여기에서 다루려고 하는 질문은 바빙크와 워필드가 제시하는 계시론과 성경의 권위에 대한 유사성과 차이점을 통해 개혁주의 신학의 통일성과 다양성을 드러내는 것이다. 지금까지 바빙크와 워필드의 영감론은 많은 학자들에 의하여 다루어져 왔지만, 두 신학자의 계시론과 성경의 신적 권위에 대한 관점을 비교하여 차이점을 논구한 작품은 많지 않다. 본 논문은 계시론의 전개 방식과 성경의 인식의 원리, 즉 객관적 원리로서의 자증성과 주관적 원리로서의 성령의 내적 증거에 대한 바빙크와 워필드의 관점에 통일성과 다양성이 있음을 증명한다.

Abstract

Rogers and McKim argues that Herman Bavink’s view of the doctrine of the Bible is different from the one of Benjamin B. Warfield. According to them, Bavink belongs to the central church tradition, while Warfield relates to the Prinstonian school which is considered to interpret the Bible in the philosophical lens. This argument, however, cannot be a right reading to their works, and they distory the divine authority of the Bible. The purpose of the article is not to prove the infallibility of the Bible, but to reveal the unity and diversity between Bavink and Warfield. Thus, far, no scholarly work has attempted to uncover the intimate relationship between the two Reformed theologians’ views of the divine authority of the Bible. the following short paper hopes to address a small part of the questions of the doctrine of revelation, particularly focusing on revelation, autopistia as the objective principle, and the testimony of the Spirit. In doing so, this article proves that there is a unity and diversity between Bavinck and Warfield, while they appears to be in their Reformed tradition.
