포스트모던 시대의 성경 권위 담론: 벤자민 워필드와 케빈 밴후저, 장종현의 견해를 중심으로

이 논문의 목적은 포스트모던 시대의 한국교회에 적절한 성경 권위 담론을 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 벤자민 워필드와 케빈 밴후저, 장종현 박사의 신학을 살펴볼 것이다. 벤자민 워필드와 케빈 밴후저, 장종현은 모두 저마다의 신학적 정황 속에서 성경의 권위를 강조했다. 모더니즘에서 포스트모더 니즘으로 전환되는 과정에서 각 신학 모델에 대해 비판이 있기도 했지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 세 가지 성경 권위 담론에서 도출되 는 연속성은 성경의 권위가 시대를 막론하고 언제나 강조되어야 한다는 사실에 있다. 하지만 성경 권위를 고백하고 표현해 내는 방식에 있어서 세 신학자들의 방법에는 다소 차이가 있다. 워필드의 경우 합리주의로부터의 도전으로 인해 성경 권위 자체를 확보하는 문제에 집 중했다. 하지만 성경에 담긴 실천적 함의들을 명시적으로 제시 하지 못함으로써 다양한 비판에 직면해야 했다. 밴후저는 포스트 모더니즘이라는 맥락에서 성경 권위와 교회의 실천을 함께 강조 하고자 했다. 하지만 서구적인 맥락의 언어철학과 해석학적 측면 에서 논의가 이루어지기 때문에 그의 신학을 한국교회에 그대로 적용하기에는 다소 한계가 있고, 실천적인 문제들을 다루기까지 또 다른 이론적 고찰이 필요하다는 구조적 모순을 지닌다. 장종 현 박사가 주창한 개혁주의생명신학은 성경 권위와 교회의 실천 에 대한 이중적 강조를 보다 직관적이고 명시적으로 드러내고 있 다. 그 신학 내용 자체가 새로운 것은 아니지만, 한국교회의 포스 트모더니즘이라는 맥락에서 전통적인 개혁신학을 계승하면서도, 성경의 권위와 교회의 실천을 좀 더 효과적으로 강조하고 있는 시도로 볼 수 있다. 이상의 논의를 통해서 오늘날 성경 권위와 교회의 실천적 삶을 함께 강조하는 신학적 모델을 추구해야 한다는 사실을 분명히 밝 히고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present appropriate Biblical authority discourse in the postmodern era. To this end, we will look at the theology of Benjamin Warfield, Kevin Banhoozer, and Jang Jong-hyun. Although there have been criticisms on the previous theological models in the process of transition from modernism to postmodernism, the continuity of Biblical authority discourse nevertheless lies in the fact that the authority of the Bible must be emphasized at all times. However, there are some differences in the methodology of the three theologians in the way they confess and express Biblical authority. Warfield focused on securing Biblical author- ity itself due to the challenges from Rationalism. However, he had to face various criticisms by failing to explicitly present practical implications contained in his Doctrine of the Bible. Vanhoozer tried to emphasize Bible authority and church life to- gether in the context of postmodernism. However, since his dis- cussions are made in terms of linguistic philosophy and herme- neutics in the Western context, there is a somewhat limitation in applying his theology to the Korean church as it is. Furthermore, his theological model has a structural contradiction that another theoretical consideration is needed to deal with prac- tical issues. Dr. Jang Jong-hyun’s Reformed Life Theology more intuitively and explicitly reveals the dual emphasis on Biblical authority and church life. Theological content itself is not some- thing new, but it can be seen as an effective attempt to inherit and apply traditional Reformed Theology, as well as a trial to emphasize Biblical authority and church life in the context of postmodernism in the Korean church. Through the discussion above, I would like to clarify the fact that we should pursue a theological model that emphasizes the authority of the Bible and the practical life of the church together.
