이 글에서는 동부 유라시아론이 동아시아 세계론의 어떠한 부분을 비판하였는지 설명하고, 동부 유라시아론의 전개와 관련하여 먼저 제기된 동양사 연구 및 나중에 제기된 일본사 연구와의 관련성을 분석한 후, 지역범위 설정에서 차이가 나는 ‘바다’ 관련 문제를 검토하고, ‘동부 유라시아론’의 이론체계와 관련하여 그 세계사 인식을 설명하며, 현재까지 드러난 문제점과 향후 과제를 제시하였다. 동부 유라시아론에서는 시간ㆍ공간이 잘못 설정되어 중국왕조가 과대평가되었고, 주변세력의 주체성을 충분히 인식하지 못한 중국 중심주의라는 점에서 동아시아 세계론을 비판하였다. 동양사에서의 동부 유라시아론은 육지 중심의 개념인 경우가 많고, 대부분 다국체제 등 10세기 이후의 상황에 주목하는 경향이 강하였다. 반면 일본사에서의 동부 유라시아론은 이와 달리 9세기 이전에 주목하면서 바다 중심의 개념으로 전개되는 경향이 있었다. 동부 유라시아론 중 ‘육지’ 중심의 인식은 정치외교적 측면이, ‘바다’ 중심의 인식은 경제ㆍ문화적 측면이 강조되는 경향이 있었다. 동부 유라시아에 대해서는 단순한 지역 범위인지, 내부의 구조를 가지는 지역세계인지에 대한 논의가 있었다. 세계사적 인식과 관련해서 동부 유라시아론이 제기된 시대적 배경으로는 내륙아시아 연구의 발전과 유라시아에의 관심, 중국에 대한 인식이 마르크스주의적 경향에서 적대적으로 변화한 것을 들 수 있었다. 동부 유라시아론은 상호관련성이 약하고, 중국 중심주의가 여전하여 동아시아 세계론을 대체하기 어렵다는 문제점이 지적되었고, 사료적 제약의 극복, 성립시기와 변동양상 문제, 중앙 유라시아 동향과의 관련성, ‘세계’로서의 동부 유라시아 문제 등이 향후 극복해야할 과제였다.
Abstract
In this article, Eastern Eurasian theory criticized what part of East Asian world theory, analyzed its relevance to Oriental history studies and later Japanese history studies, reviewed issues that differ in regional settings around sea, and presented problems and next objectives. In the Eastern Eurasian theory, the Chinese dynasty was overestimated due to the incorrect setting of time and space, and criticized East Asian world theory in that it was a Chinese centralism that did not fully recognize the independence of neighboring forces. Eastern Eurasian theory in Oriental history is often a land-oriented concept, and most of them tend to pay attention to the situation after the 10th century, including multiple center systems. On the other hand, the Eastern Eurasian theory in Japanese history tended to develop into a sea-centered concept, paying attention before the 9th century. Among Eastern Eurasian theories, land-oriented concept tended to be emphasized on the political and diplomatic aspects, while sea-centered concept tended to be emphasized on the economic and cultural aspects. As for Eastern Eurasia, there has been discussion about whether it is a simple regional scope or a regional world with an internal structure. Regarding world historical awareness, the background of the Eastern Eurasian theory was the development of Inner Asian studies, the interest to Eurasia, and a change in perception to China from Marxist tendencies to hostile attitudes. Eastern Eurasian theory was pointed out that it was difficult to replace East Asian world theory due to its weak interrelationship, Chinese centralism, and the next objectives of overcoming constraints of historical records, establishing and fluctuating patterns, relevance to Central Eurasian movements and Eastern Eurasia as a world.
