Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to criticize Audi‘s view on moral agent's responsibility and present an alternative view. Audi claims that moral agent’s character traits and behaviors have responsibility for their effects. I try to refute his view, showing that the character traits of the agent cannot be regarded as having full control in the ultimate sense. Nevertheless I do not discard the first of the three meanings that Audi has identified: causal responsibility. This limited meaning of responsibility helps to establish responsibility in a practical sense, not in a metaphysical sense. This is because it can contribute to the fact-finding, cause-analysis, and assessment planning of an event. The advantage of my alternatives is that it can avoid the difficulties of utilitarian idea of punishment that would be implied if we deny the concept of metaphysical responsibility.
