Abstract

This paper aims to explain the life and poetic world of So Dong-do(蘇東道). Through the learning process of So Dong-do(蘇東道), we can see the process by which Confucianism(儒學) in Iksan was incorporated into the scope of Kiho(畿湖) Confucianism. The poetic world of So Dong-do(蘇東道) can be described in two parts. First, it aims to live a life that is satisfied with his own duties(本分) in a chaotic era. He grew up watching the political events (in central politics) that swept through his hometown. And he experienced the reality of a dark era. In this process, he realized the importance of a peaceful daily life. Peaceful daily life is a relative concept to the anxiety caused by war and political events. In another sense, peaceful daily life is a form of life that can be chosen according to value standards. Therefore, it shows that even a strict manager can enjoy the life of an ordinary farmer under certain circumstances. Second, there is a strong passion for life in one's hometown. Life in one's hometown guarantees the joy of enjoying nature and the mental satisfaction gaining from old books of all times. There is no poet who does not sung about the joys of life in his hometown. However, there are several reasons why So Dong-do(蘇東道) particularly yearns for life in his hometown. (That is) because hometown is a space of desirelessness where one can choose according to one’s own standards of value, the earth of civilization that makes one feel proud of himself, and a space where comfort exists between relatives.
