서산 정인경(1267~1305)의 사후 추숭과 관련사적

Abstract

This paper presents a case study that illustrated how a research on historical places related to the posthumous royal designation of Jeong In-gyeong, a prominent figure born in Seosan, would contribute to the restoration of Seosan's history. Jeong In-gyeong(1267-1305) was one of the historical and symbolic figures of Seosan. In fact, he was the one that determined the title "Seosan." He was such a revered figure that the Seosan Hyangris held a religious ceremony for him at the village shrine after his death. There are relatively rich records about him, who is one of the few figures whose old documents including Gongshinrokgwon and Jeongan and Goryeo data including the epitaph still remain today. His biography was also included in Goryeosa. In the 17th and 18th century, the distinguished families of Seosan held a religious service for him at Songgok Hyanghyeonsa. There are many other relics left in Seosan to honor him. The histories of figures and family names are very important keywords directly connected to local history and critical sources of data to offer valuable results related to the local and cultural history of the concerned times and the period of posthumous royal designation. However, the materials about posthumous royal designation require objective valuations and thorough criticisms since they widely vary in declination and purity according to the subjects and levels of transmission. In the process, the investigator related the topic to the background behind Jeong In-gyeong's registration in national records, his posthumous royal designation and the atmosphere to re-illuminate him around Japanese Invasion in 1592, and the trends among Seosan's distinguished families in the 17th century and the early 18th century. The study will hopefully serve as a stepping stone to show how the efforts to identify and sort out records and materials about local figures are connected to and make a contribution to the restoration of local history.
