포은 정몽주와 용인 충렬서원의 역사적 의의 고찰

본고는 서원의 정치사회학적 또는 건축학적 관점이나 문화적 활용에 중점을 둔기존연구에서 벗어나 배향 인물과 서원 및 해당 지역의 관계성을 중심으로 역사적측면에서 어떠한 의미가 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이에 유학의 조예가 깊고 붕당의 한계를 넘어서 존앙 받고 있는 포은 정몽주를 연구대상 인물로 설정하고, 전국각지에 분포되어 있는 배향 서원들을 조사하였다. 총 18개의 서원 중 그의 묘소가있는 경기도 용인시 모현면에 위치한 충렬서원의 건립 배경 및 변천 과정, 의의에대해 문헌자료를 바탕으로 살펴보았다. 또한 정몽주 묘역과 충렬서원이 자리 잡은용인 모현면 지역이 포은의 가문과 어떠한 관계를 형성하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 유교의 충과 효 등 보편적 가치와 전통문화 계승 및 지방사 연구의 중요성을 재확인하였다.
Abstract
A total of 16 national leaders, including Son Byunghee and Yeo Woonhyung,are resting in peace in the cemetery of patriots in Mt. Bukhan. The fact that theygave their life for the realization of the most important values in the modern Koreanhistory that include national independence and democracy enables the graveyardto serve as a venue for social history education. The leaders laid in the burial groundare distinguished for their sacrifice and dedication for the building of a politicalcommunity that provides ideal democratic values to people, not blind loyalty tothose in power back in their times. Their devotion was also made to promotecommunication and reconciliation, other than confrontation and being selfish. TheMt. Bukhan cemetery itself can be viewed as a democratic symbol because theyare all in one place, despite their different political ideologies, including as centralleftist, anarchist, Christian nationalist, Cheondoist (a person who believes in a localreligion Cheondoism) and liberalist.
