비음운론적 조건을 지닌 음운현상은 예외로 다루어지거나 특정한 음운이론 내에서 처리되거나 또는 부분적으로는 다른 부문과 연관지어 설명되었다. 이 글은 비음운론적 조건 또는 정보를 지닌 음운현상이 지금까지 어떻게 다루어왔는지에 대한 개괄적인 소개를 하고, 앞으로의 연구방향을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 비음운론적 조건을 지닌 음운현상은 크게 두 부류로 나누어진다. 비음운론적 조건이 음운부 이외의 부문 또는 그 하위 부문 전체와 연관되어 음운현상이 나타나는 경우는 몇몇 어휘에 한정되어서 음운현상이 일어난 경우와 구분된다. 이 글에서는 전자의 경우를 음운론과 다른 부문과의 상호작용이 일어난 인접현상(interface)으로 보고, 이러한 조건 및 제약을 각 부문별로 나누어 살펴보고자 한다. 즉, 비음운론적 조건에 따라 음운론과 형태론, 음운론과 통사론의 상호작용 및 유추적 작용 등으로 나누어 고찰하고자 한다. 하지만 비음운론적 조건을 지닌 음운현상이 어떤 부류에 나타나는 것이 아니라 특정한 몇몇 어휘에 나타나는 경우, 다른 부문과의 상호작용의 결과나 인접현상으로 파악하지는 않는다. 비음운론적 조건을 지닌 음운현상은 예외적인 현상이 아니라 음운부와 다른 부문과의 상호작용이 일어난 인접현상으로 파악되고 통합적인 언어활동의 결과로 이해되는 것이 바람직하다고 보며, 앞으로 이러한 측면에서의 연구가 이어지길 기대한다.
Abstract
This paper discusses phonological phenomena with non-phonological information. It is shown how they are analysed in various phonological theories. They are explained by means of boundaries, morphophonemic rules, lexical level, and phonological constituents. They are also relative to syntactic structure and analogical process. Phonological phenomena with non-phonological information are a kind of ‘interface’ in which there happens interaction among modules within the grammar. Accordingly, they are considered not as exceptions, but as results from interactions among grammatical modules. Considering productive word formation through analogy, it is also necessary to investigate connections between them and aspects of cognition.
