일상적인 구어에서는 문어 또는 규범적인 표현과는 다른 형태의 말이 흔히 사용된다. 음운현상에서도 이러한 변이형들이 자연스럽게 나타나는데, 다양한 변이가 존재하는 가운데 다른 한편으로는 일정한 움직임이 나타나기도 한다. 또한 구어의 표현에는 발화 상황과 관련된 점들이 담겨 있거나 화자의 의사소통을 수월하게 하려는 시도가 들어 있기도 한다. 따라서 이러한 구어의 음운현상을 이해하기 위해서는 규범적인 틀에서 벗어나 시각의 전환이 필요하다. 일상적인 구어의 음운현상의 연구는 네 하위영역을 지닌다: 즉, 일상적인 구어에서의 음운현상 조사·기술·분류, 계층별 실태 차이 비교, 규범적인 음운현상과의 비교와 통합적 설명, 언어 부문 사이의 인접현상. 규범적인 음운론과 비교해 볼 때, 일상적인 발화에서는 음소체계와 음소목록의 차이, 조음위치동화를 비롯하여 다양한 줄임과 첨가의 음운현상, 어휘적 장음보다는 표현적 장음의 사용, 화자의 감정과 심리 상태에 따른 억양의 실현 등이 나타났다. 일상적인 구어의 음운현상과 규범적인 음운현상의 통합적 설명이 동화현상을 사례로 시도되었는데, 여기에는 음절연결법칙, 조음제스처, 정체성 등이 작용한 것으로 보인다. 곡용 및 활용의 단일화와 억양과 문형, 화자의 태도, 언표내적 행위와의 연관성 등 언어 부문 사이의 인접현상에 대한 사례도 제시되었다. 구어의 음운현상의 연구를 위해서는 무엇보다도 화자 계층과 텍스트에 따른 구어자료의 지속적인 구축이 필요하다.
Abstract
This paper discusses phonological phenomena of colloquial Korean. There are various phonological differences between standard and colloquial Korean: the phoneme inventory and system, phonological phenomena including assimilation, lexical and expressive length, and various intonations. Regardless of various variations in colloquial Korean, I think standard and colloquial phonological phenomena should not be dealt with only separately. I try to show an integrated explanation of assimilations in standard and colloquial Korean by means of the syllable contact law, articulatory gestures, and the sound’s identity. Especially in colloquial Korean, there are interfaces between phonology and morphology or pragmatics. The phonological study of colloquial Korean comprises investigation of phonological phenomena in colloquial Korean, comparison between speaker classes, integrated explanation of colloquial and standard phonological phenomena, and interfaces between phonology and other levels. To study phonological phenomena in colloquial Korean adequately, it is necessary to build the corpus of spoken data with prosodic informations.
