Abstract
Eating disorders are not simply a problem of eating habits, but are identified as a complex disorder that deeply affects physical and psychological health and overall social relationships. This study examined the problems of patients with eating disorders from the perspective of Balwoo Gongyang, a Buddhist meal practice, and psychiatric medicine, and reviewed related clinical studies. In addition, from the perspective of oriental medicine, while analyzing organs and emotions, the interactions between physical and psychological symptoms were examined, together with related clinical research results. Through this, the causes and characteristics of eating disorders were understood in a more multidimensional way. Finally, by examining Balwoo Gongyang, which forms the basis of mindful eating, the perspective of viewing food and mind-body was reaffirmed. The possibility of practical methods was examined while contributing to improve ments in self-regulation and psychological stability. As a result, it was confirmed that Buddhist practice can correct distorted per ceptions of food and the body, strengthen self-regulation abilities, and substantially contribute to psychological stability and recovery of physical balance. Moreover, multidisciplinary and integrated research that com bines understanding from psychiatric medicine, oriental medicine, and Buddhist practice provides new academic and practical possibilities for the management and prevention of eating dis orders and the development of long-term treatment strategies. Additionally, this study emphasizes the need for integrated and multidisciplinary research in the fields of Buddhism and medicine, and suggests the possibility of expanding the academic inter section between Buddhism and medicine, as well as the preven tion and long-term management of eating disorders, and sub stantially contributing to the treatment and management of mental and physical health in modern society.
