Abstract

This study conducts a comparative case analysis to examine how the B2V2C model—collaboration among businesses (B), volunteers (V), and consumers (C)—operates as an approach to addressing social problems. Precious Plastic (plastic recycling) and OLIO (food sharing) share the characteristics of hybrid organizations that pursue both commercial sustainability and social value. The analysis reveals that Precious Plastic functions as an open-source, community-driven social innovation model characterized by openness, sharing, decentralization, and autonomy. In contrast, OLIO demonstrates the traits of a platform-based social innovation model, emphasizing investment, profit generation, centralized control, and market orientation. Based on these differences, the study offers implications for the diffusion of similar environmental projects in Korea.
