Abstract
This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis between the Living Lab and Collective Impact models as frameworks for social innovation designed to address complex community problems. Moving beyond traditional approaches that focus on increasing the amount of resources invested, this research analyzes the operational structures, knowledge frameworks, networks, and interrelations among participating actors in both models. By comparing the functions and structures of the Living Lab and Collective Impact, the study identifies their distinct characteristics. It further compares the methods and outcomes of applying these models based on similar cases. The findings reveal that the Living Lab is effective in deriving problems and generating innovative outputs based on participants’ ideas, whereas Collective Impact is more useful for mobilizing optimal resources to achieve shared agendas or solve social problems. Rather than applying either model in isolation, it is suggested that the Living Lab be used for problem exploration and idea generation, while Collective Impact be applied for problem-solving and goal achievement. Based on these findings, the study proposes strategies for integrating the two models. It is anticipated that the results will help both scholars and practitioners resolve potential confusion and limitations that may arise when utilizing these frameworks.
