Abstract

This study empirically analyzed the impact of generative AI-based practical music composition education on students' self-regulated learning ability and performance, with a particular focus on its mediating effect in the relationship between AI education and performance outcomes. The findings demonstrated that AI-based composition education significantly enhances key elements of self-regulated learning, such as cognitive, motivational, and behavioral regulation, which, in turn, improve students' performance capabilities. From a music education perspective, this research highlights several important implications. The results show that AI can effectively enhance students' ability to analyze musical structures and rhythms, maintain motivation, and develop structured practice plans. AI tools were found to be particularly effective in fostering musical thinking and creative interpretation, offering a distinct advantage over traditional educational approaches. Moreover, the study underscores the role of AI in providing personalized learning pathways and real-time feedback, which significantly bolster students' self-directed learning. This suggests that educators can leverage AI to design tailored educational programs that accommodate individual learning characteristics, allowing students to establish and execute their own learning strategies effectively. In conclusion, the study highlights the potential of AI in music education as a powerful tool that not only assists with technical instruction but also serves as a catalyst for maximizing students' learning outcomes. It underscores the importance of integrating AI into educational settings, where it can act as a transformative element to enhance both learning processes and performance.
