결과는 한국인 학습자들은 elaborative, inferential, spoken, temporal, contrastive순으로 많이 사용하고 있었고 특징적인 것은 각 유형에 해당하는 담화표지어 중 특정한 담화표지어(and, but, because, when, I think)를 집중적으로 사용하는 양상을 보이는 것이다. 이들이 에세이점수에 미치는 영향은 통계학적으로 elaborative와 temporal이 유의미하게 나타났다. 종합하면 한국인 학습자들은 글쓰기에서 elaborative 유형을 가장 많이 사용하고 점수에 많은 영향을 미치는 주요 담화표지어로 나타났다.
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate Korean learners’ use of discourse markers(DMs) in their argumentative essays. The roles of DMs are to connect part of discourse segments and to deliver aspects of speakers’ message. From the EFL learners’ perspective, it is hard to master these roles of DMs in their language use. There are two specific research questions for the study: 1) frequency patterns of discourse markers, 2) correlation between essay scores and the discourse markers. For this end, 5 types of discourse markers are suggested: Elaborative, Inferential, Contrastive, Temporal, Spoken. With these DMs, 47 Korean learners’ argumentative essays are analysed through the method of the multiple regression analysis. The first result of the study is Korean learners often use Elaborative DMs in their essays. In particular, their usage is limited to a group of certain DMs (and, but, because, when, I think). The second result shows that there is a statistically significant relationship of the essay score and the use of Elaborative and Temporal DMs.
