Abstract

This study analyzes the misconceptions formed by learners through intuitive experiences in cinematography education and the processes through which these misconceptions are developed, using the frameworks of ‘p-prim theory’ and ‘troublesome knowledge’. Specifically, the study examines misconceptions related to fundamental concepts in cinematography, such as exposure, lenses, and depth of field. To achieve this, real-world classroom challenges were identified, and the underlying misconceptions were defined. The formation processes of these misconceptions were then analyzed to propose alternative educational methods aimed at bridging the gap between learners' intuitive thinking and structured scientific knowledge. Examples include problem-based learning (PBL) tasks based on real cases where misconceptions fail to function correctly, visual materials that clearly demonstrate the mismatch between experiential intuition and scientific knowledge, and experimental approaches that reveal the essential meaning of conceptualized knowledge. Examples of tasks applicable to instructional challenges related to exposure, lenses, and depth of field were provided, allowing educators to adapt and implement them flexibly in their teaching practices.
