영상디자인 기초과정으로서의 단편영화 제작 수업 사례

인간을 둘러싼 현대의 미디어 환경은 점차 인쇄매체에서 영상매체로 전환되어 가고 있다. 이러한 시대에 영상이미지를 생산해내는 책임을 지니는 영상디자이너의 교육은 무엇보다도 중요한 문제일 것이다. 일반적으로 영상디자인 수업에서는 극영화 제작을 기초과정에서 비중 있게 다루지는 않는다. 그러나 본 연구자는 극영화 제작을 통해 영상디자인의 기초 이론과 실기를 효과적으로 교육시킬 수 있다고 보았고 실험적으로 영상디자인 수업의 기초과정에 단편 극영화 제작을 적용해 보았다. 본 논문은 그 과정과 결과에 대한 본 연구자의 종합적인 분석의 결과를 주 내용으로 하고 있다. 연구자는 바람직한 영상디자인 기초과정으로서의 단편영화 제작에 관한 수업설계를 수업목표, 수업내용, 수업방법으로 세분화해서 고찰하였다. 학생들의 피드백을 통해 첫째, 학생들이 영화 제작을 통해서 영상에 대한 흥미와 재미를 느꼈고, 둘째, 영화 제작을 통해서 영상문법, 촬영, 편집 등 영상디자인의 기초를 배울 수 있었으며, 셋째, 영화 만들기를 통해서 전인적인 교육의 가치를 도모할 수 있다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 본 논문은 극영화 제작을 영상디자인 기초과정으로 도입할 경우 수업설계를 위해서 어떠한 장점이 있고 문제점이 있는지 파악할 수 있는 사례로 활용될 수 있다는 것에 그 의의가 있다.
Abstract
The contemporary media environment for human is gradually changing from print media to moving image media. In this times education for moving image designers who are responsible for making our media environment is absolutely important. Normally, narrative film making is hardly included in the basic courses of a moving image design. However this researcher assume that education about basic theory and practice in moving image design could be accomplished with short narrative film making curriculum. This study is an analysis of the process and the result after applying this experiment in the curriculum. This research investigates its objectives, contents, and teaching methods about filmmaking in the moving image design curriculum. Based on students' feedback, it was found out that firstly, students has been highly interested in moving image design secondly, they can learn the basic knowledge of moving image design such as film grammar, cinematography, and editing by experiencing the whole process of filmmaking., thirdly, filmmaking is helpful for educational development for students. This study has a meaning in that this example can be utilized for understanding what should be reinforced or improved in curriculum design if narrative film making is adapted in the basic courses of a moving image design.
