아시아 국가의 소득수렴에 관한 연구: 노동자 1인당 소득수렴과 거버넌스와 사회여건

초록

경제성장과 더불어 세계경제의 수렴과 발산에 관해 지금까지 진행되어온 기존연구는 경제여건만을 주로 다루었다. 그러다보니 경제활동 전반에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요인이라 할 수 있는 거버넌스와 사회환경의 작용에 관한 연구는 등한시해왔다. 따라서 이들 두 요인이 소득수렴에 어떤 영향을 미치는가에 대한 연구가 필요하다는 인식에서 시도한 본 연구의 목적은, 아시아지역 경제의 소득수렴현상에 거버넌스와 사회환경이 기여하는 역할이 무엇인지를 규명해내는 것이다. 각 국가의 생산성을 나타내는 노동자 1인당 GDP을 중심으로, 1996년에서 2011년까지 아시아 29개국에서 노동자 1인당 소득수렴현상이 나타나는지를 분석하였다. 29개국을 대상으로 GLS 패널회귀분석을 행한 결과 -수렴현상이 확인되었다. 그리고 -수렴현상은 주로 동아시아 지역에서 나타났다. 대부분의 국가에서 거버넌스의 개선에 따른 평균소득증가율은 감소했다. 반면에 정치적 안정은 평균소득증가율을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 아시아 지역의 정치안정은 경제성장에 긍정적인 효과를 낳을 것으로 예상된다.

Abstract

Most of researches on the convergence and divergence of income in the world economy have dealt with economic factors, ignoring such factors as governance and social conditions which can have some overall affect over economic activity. This paper, therefore, aims at figuring out whether there are both any income convergences in the Asian region and any influences of the two factors upon them revealed. By analyzing income convergences among 29 Asian countries from 1996 to 2011, this paper finds such results that -convergence phenomena appeared in all of those Asian nations and -convergences was seen in the East Asian region, and that most of average income growth was related with the improvement of governance and social environments, thereby implying political stability is expected to have a positive impact upon the economic growth of Asia.
