Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare perceptions of kicking techniques, strategies, and scoring characteristics associated with Protector Scoring Systems manufactured by two different manufacturers, Brand D and Brand K, which are widely used in Taekwondo competitions both domestically and internationally. A total of 222 Taekwondo athletes participated in the survey. Basic statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 25.0 and Excel 2013. Additionally, frequency analysis using Excel 2013 was performed to examine the scoring zones and techniques according to each manufacturer's Protector Scoring System. The results showed that, first, for the Protector Scoring System manufactured by Brand K, both national and non-national team athletes perceived the highest scoring opportunities to occur during initial attack situations, followed by close-range attacks. Similarly, for the system manufactured by Brand D, national team athletes recognized initial attacks as the most favorable for scoring, with close-range attacks ranked second. Second, in the case of Brand K, both national and non-national team athletes identified the roundhouse kick as the most effective scoring technique, followed by the front-leg roundhouse kick. In contrast, for Brand D, both groups perceived the pushing kick as the most effective, followed by the roundhouse kick.
