스피노자의 정치이론에 대한 인간유형론적 해석 비판

이 논문은 스피노자 연구에 나타나는 철학자의 편견, 즉 인간을 철학자와 대중으로 유형화하고, 그러한 유형화에 기초해서 스피노자의 정치이론을 구성하려는 시도들을 비판적으로 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 이 논문은 먼저 스피노자의 정치이론이 철학자와 대중이라는 상이한 인간유형의 구분에 기초하고 있다고 주장하는 현대의 해석들을 살펴보고, 이러한 해석이 기대고 있는 이른바 ‘스피노자의 인간유형론’이 스피노자의 인간론에 과연 부합하는지 여부를 분석한다. 그리고 결론적으로 스피노자의 글 속에 등장하는 유형론의 근거가 되는 각종 명칭들이 철학자와 대중이라는 두 가지 종류의 서로 다른 인간유형을 뜻하는 것이 아니라, 이성과 정서라는 한 인간의 두 측면을 가리키는 것임을 밝힌다. 이로써 간접적으로 스피노자의 정치이론이 정치를 ‘은총’으로부터만 아니라 ‘신학화한 철학’으로부터도 해방하고 있음을 드러낸다.
Abstract
In the studies of Spinoza there are some attempts to put human in two types, that of philosophers and of the multitude, and to reconstruct Spinoza’s political theory thereof. This paper is to reconsider these attempts critically. Foremost the contemporary interpretations will be examined which insist Spinoza’s political theory be based on the distinction of two different types of human. Then it will be analysed whether these typological interpretations of Spinoza’s political theory accord with his anthropological prepositions. In conclusion it will be revealed that many names appearing in Spinoza’s texts as supposed to be evidences of human typology do not mean two different types of human, but two different aspects of one person, reason and affect. Spinoza’s political theory is emancipating politics not only from ‘grace’, but also from ‘theologized philosophy’.
