日本語の若者言葉の理論的分析に向けて

초록

日本語の若者言葉に関する文献は多いが、その文法․意味的な特徴について一般言語学の視点から分析した研究は見當たらない。本稿では、若者言葉という言語バラエティを非離散的に捉えることを提案し、そのサブバラエティとしてのぼかし言葉を考察対象とする。そして、Evaluative Morphologyの分野で提唱されているattenuationという概念が、ぼかし言葉の機能を説明する際に有用であると提案する。この提案を例証するために、ぼかし言葉に分類される「〜系」を含む例を検討する。具体的には、 「〜系」が「準備をしなければならない系」のように動詞句に付く場合があることを指摘し、その機能の一つとして、話し手が命題内容に対して持つ断言度が基準値より下であることを示すと主張する。その理論的帰結として、attenuationには話し手の断言度というスケールも関わると示唆する。

Abstract

Despite a wealth of previous studies on Japanese Wakamono Kotoba ‘Youth Language,’ its grammatical and semantic properties have rarely been studied from the perspective of general linguistics. In the present article, we propose to construe Wakamono Kotoba in a non‐discrete manner and specifically address its sub‐variety, Bokashi Kotoba ‘Vague Language.’ We contend that the theoretical concept of “attenuation,” proposed in the field of Evaluative Morphology, is a fruitful basis for analyzing some functions of Bokashi Kotoba. This contention is motivated by the analysis of ‐kei, an expression in Bokashi Kotoba. More precisely, we observe that ‐kei may be attached to a verb (or a verb phrase) and claim that one of its functions is to convey that the degree of assertion is lower than the (pragmatically set) standard value. As a theoretical consequence of this analysis, it is suggested that the concept of attenuation may involve the semantic scale concerning the degree of assertion.
