本稿では、従来研究が盛んに行なわれてこなかった美化語を取り上げ、そ の説明モデルを構築するための足がかりを提供する。まず、今までの先行研 究で培われてきた知見を批判的に検討することを通し、美化語の説明モデル の必須要件を明示化する。そして、有用と思われる理論的アプローチを素描 する。具体的には、美化語の研究には統語的な分析よりも、意味·語用論的な 分析の方が妥当であり、一つの可能性として関連性理論の枠組みにおける分 析を示唆する。
Abstract
This article addresses “beautified speech” in Japanese, a phenomenon that has received little attention in the literature, and provides a foundation to construct a theoretical model of beautified speech. We shall first critically examine previous studies and clarify several prerequisites for an account of beautified speech. We shall then claim that the syntactic analysis is not particularly suitable for the treatment of beautified speech, and that the semantic-pragmatic analysis offers a natural solution. As a candidate of a semantic-pragmatic approach, a preliminary analysis is suggested within the framework of Relevance Theory.
