인도시장의 제도적 여건이 기업구조에 끼친 영향

이머징 마켓의 일원인 인도는 그동안 도로, 항만, 전력, 공항 등의 물리적 기간시설뿐만 아니라 기업 활동을 지원하는 매스컴, 리서치회사, 헤드헌터(인력개발회사), 물류회사, 신용카드회사, 벤처캐피탈, 회계감사기관, 감독과 규제기관 등 지원회사와 제도전반이 선진국과 달리 미발달하거나 제대로 된 모습을 갖추질 못하였다. 따라서 이와 같은 미발달한 기업여건 하에서 인도 기업들은 기업 활동에 어려움에 처하고 이에 대한 대응방안으로 기업내부에 부족한 외부제도를 대신해 시장조사, 교육, 채용, 법률, 물류, 홍보, 금융, 해외협력 등의 조직을 갖추면서 활동을 하였다. 인도기업은 이와 같이 선진국에서라면 외부에서 해도 될 것을 자체적으로 갖추고 활동하면서 다른 한편으로는 기업이 새로운 분야에 진출하는 경우에 내부의 자금, 인력 등 여러 면에서 신규활동을 지원하였다. 따라서 인도의 기존 기업들은 그렇지 않고 미성숙한 제도 하에서 단독으로 사업을 시작하는 다른 신생기업보다 앞선 경쟁력을 갖추면서 새로운 기업 혹은 분야로 진출하게 되었다. 결국 그동안 인도기업들은 제도가 잘 발달한 선진국에서 활동하는 기업과 달리 제도여건이 발달하지 않은 곳에서 활동하면서 여러 기업을 거느리고, 다양한 분야에 진출하는 기업그룹의 모습을 갖는데 이와 같은 모습은 아직 인도의 미발달한 제도 여건상 당분간 지속될 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
In an emerging market country, like India, not only hard infrastructure like road, port, power, airport but also service industries and software-like economic system, such as, mass-communication, research firm, head hunter or manpower development firm, logistics firm, credit card & venture capital and financial system overall, accounting firm, regulatory authority etc. are less developed or non-existent. Accordingly, in such a less developed economic environment, firms would face difficulties in doing business and did internally necessary functions like the activities of market research, training of workers, recruitment, law related activities, logistics, financial activities and overseas cooperation works, etc. Such inside activities have gradually become permanent internal structure in the firm. Then, compared to newly born firm's activities for doing business in the absent or less developed economic system, the existing Indian firm's new business activities would have competitiveness against the new firm and the existing firm often became successful in the new business activities. In the end, the Indian firm, unlike the one of advanced countries with well developed economic system, would often become a business group with several firms and also often in unrelated industries.
