The purpose of this paper is to describe the change in meaning and usage of [teki(的)] in modern Japanese. I ascertained the notable change of meaning and preceding basis of [teki]. Originally the form [teki] taking a word as the preceding basis can be regarded as lexical and fixed suffix. But it also can be considered as a productive and grammatical particle. [teki] as productive particle can indicate the meanings for vagueness , qualification, metaphor and quotation. I estimate that the tendency of using [teki] as productive particle would be more popular in the future Japanese. For that reason the usage of [teki] as productive particle should be regarded as important contents in learning Japanese.
