The documents in the court library when compiling 『ShinsenShōjiroku(新撰姓氏錄)』 contain historical books including 『Kojiki(古事記)』, 『NihonShoki(日本書紀)』, 『Japanese imperial family tree(諸王系圖)』, 『ShokuNihongi(續日本紀)』; and 「kogonenjyaku(庚午年籍); Honkei(本系) submitted in the period of Emperor Shōmu(聖武天皇); the family tree of over-5th ranked clans in the Ministry of Ceremonies(治部省). Therefore, it is 『ShinsenShōjiroku』 that includes the newly submitted Honkei after compiling and verifying 「Kuji(舊史)」 and 「Gogi(古記)」 in the court library. Also, 「Sanrei(三例)」, describing how close the stated clans are, decides 「Gogi」, Honkei after verifying the newly presented honsou family tree; in addition, the issues such as the origin of ujigabane(氏姓), ancestors’ achievements, and sisei(賜姓) are the results by verifying historical books in the court library and old official documents.
