本研究は沖縄本島首里方言における口蓋化の適用可否を明らかにすることが目的である。首里方言は前舌高母音/i/または硬口蓋わたり音/j/の前の/t d/と/k ɡ/に口蓋化が起こり、それぞれ[ʧi]と[ʤi]に交替するという特徴がある。ただし、首里方言は歴史的に5母音体系(/i e a o u/)から、中母音の高母音化(/e/ > /i/, /o/ > /u/)により、現代語は[i a u]という3母音体系になっており、/e/から変化した/i/の前には表面上[i]の前でも口蓋化は適用しない。宮良・新川(1994)・宮良(1995)は音声的に同じ[i]でも口蓋化の適用可否が決まることを説明するために、口蓋化を引き起こす[i]に対しては音素/i/を設定し、口蓋化を引き起こさない[i]に対しては音素/ɨ/を設定した。しかし音素/ɨ/の設定は様々な面において問題である。本研究は、階層的最適性理論に基づき、/ɨ/を設定せず階層別の制約優先順位の違いから、口蓋化の可否を説明した。
Abstract
This paper examines the applicability of palatalization in the Shuri dialect of Japanese. It is occurred that palatalization of /t k/, /d ɡ/ to /ʧ/, /ʤ/ before high front vowel /i/ or palatal glide /j/ in Shuri dialect. This dialect shows diachronic change from 5 vowel system (/i e a o u/) to 3 vowel system(/i a u/) by mid vowel raising (e.g., e > i, o > u). The is that it is blocked palatalization before /i/ that has been changed from /e/. Miyara and Arakawa (1994) and Miyara (1995) postulate high central unrounded vowel /ɨ/ replacing /i/(< /e/) for the blocking of palatalization before /i/(< /e/). Postulating /ɨ/, however, is very problematic. We analyzed the applicability of palatalization between /i/(< /i/) and /i/(< /e/) based on Stratal Optimality Theory.
