초록

本研究は最適性理論の枠組みから大分方言と沖縄本島首里方言における母音融合の特徴を分析した。二つの方言の融合母音にはいわゆる開合の違いが現れており、/ai/・/au/のように低母音の含まれた連母音は中母音の[e:]・[o:]に融合し、/ei/・/ou/のように中母音の含まれた連母音は高中母音の[i:]・[u:]に融合するという特徴がある。 先行研究はこれを説明するために、中母音の長音を排除する制約の*Mid/Longと低母音から2段階高さの素性を変更することを阻止するために、制約結合を行った[Ident[high]&Ident[low]]segを導入しているが、これは様々な面で問題を残している。 本研究はこの2つの制約に対して前者は音声基盤の再定義を行い、後者は内在的な階層を持つ忠実性制約を導入して融合母音の特徴を説明した。

Abstract

This paper examines the vowel coalescence patterns of two Japanese dialects ― Shuri Japanese in Okinawa and Oita Japanese in Kyushu island ― within the framework of Optimality Theory. These dialects show the peculiar coalescence patterns which are not typologically reported. As a type of coalescence of /ai/ and /au/, two vowels merge to mid long vowel [e:] and [o:], which are very common type of coalescence. /ei/ and /ou/, however, coalesces not to mid long vowel but to high long vowel (i.e., [i:] and [u:] respectively). This pattern has not been reported in academia so far. I will account for this perculier height coalescence with a phonetically based constraint prohibiting mid long vowel, and faithfulness constraints of vowel height which involve a perceptual distance of violation and have intrinsic hierarchy
