『겐지모노가타리(源氏物語)』의 권명 「와카무라사키(若紫)」에 관한 고찰

本研究は『源氏物語』の巻名「若紫」とそこに繰り広がる「若紫」巻の内容がいかに関わるかを考察したものである。研究にあたってはまず『源氏物語』における「紫」が恋に染まった心の比喩という和歌的伝統に由来する表現であることを確認した。つづいては 「若紫」巻の内容に『伊勢物語』の一〇七段と六十五段における「若し」の影響があることを取り上げた。この過程は『湖月抄』の指摘する、巻名「若紫」が「若」と「紫」の結合によるという考えを検証するものとも言えるが、その結合には意味の多義性があった。巻名の「若紫」は若き源氏の藤壺に対する無謀な愛情を下敷きにして恋の対象となるには幼い紫の上を手中に収める展開を表象するものである。紫式部は「若紫」という既存の歌語を巻名として借用したものの、その内実は既存の歌語に限定されることなく多義的な用いたことを確認した。最後にはこのような紫式部の方法が『伊勢物語』の方法と類似することを確認した。
Abstract
This study examines how the title “Wakamurasaki” of the chapter in The Tale of Genji relates to its content. Initially, the study confirms that “murasaki” in The Tale of Genji is an expression derived from the poetic tradition, symbolizing a heart dyed in love. Subsequently, it addresses the influence of the word “wakashi” from sections 107 and 65 of The Tales of Ise on the content of the “Wakamurasaki” chapter. This process can be seen as verifying the idea from the Kogetsusho commentary that the title “Wakamurasaki” is a combination of “waka” and “murasaki,” revealing its inherent polysemy. The title “Wakamurasaki” represents the young Genji’s reckless affection for Fujitsubo, and his pursuit of the young Murasaki no Ue, who is not yet a suitable romantic partner. Murasaki Shikibu borrowed the existing poetic term “Wakamurasaki” for the chapter title, but used it in a multifaceted way beyond its conventional poetic meaning. Finally, the study confirms that Murasaki Shikibu’s method is similar to that of The Tales of Ise.
