조사 ‘은/는’과 ‘이/가’의 의미

이 글은 그동안 분명히 정리되지 못한 ‘은/는’과 ‘이/가’ 조사의 의미에 대하여 다루었다. 기존 연구에서는 ‘은/는’의 의미는 화제 제시와 대조의 의미를 갖는 것으로 보는 경우가 많았는데, 본 연구의 결과 ‘은/는’이화제 제시 기능이 있다는 점에 대해서는 특별한 근거를 찾을 수 없었고,대조 의미는 ‘은/는’의 지적하는 기능에서 파생되어 나온 것임을 알 수 있었다. 이에 두 조사의 의미를 새롭게 살펴본 결과 ‘은/는’의 기본 의미는대상을 설명하는 것으로, ‘이/가’의 기본 의미는 상황을 묘사하는 것으로파악되었다. 즉, ‘은/는’은 주어부의 대상을 지적하면서 술어부의 내용으로 하여금 이를 풀이하게 만들어 무엇을 설명하는 문장을 만들며, ‘이/가’는 주어와 서술어의 관계를 연결시킴으로써 사건의 주체가 누구인지를묘사한다. 이러한 두 조사의 의미를 다양한 경우의 예문을 통하여 확인하였다.
Abstract
This article investigated the meaning of Korean particles ‘eun/nun’ and ‘i/ka’which has not been clearly revealed so far. In previous studies the ‘eun/nun’ was considered has a meaning of presenting the topic and the contrast. But according to the results of the present study, there is no specific reason ‘eun/nun’ has a meaning of the presenting the topic. And we could see that the meaning of the contrast comes from the pointing out ability which ‘eun/nun’ has. Based on these, we came to know the meaning of the ‘eun/nun’ is ‘explanation’and the ‘i/ka’ is ‘description’. ‘eun/nun’ points out the subject part’s nouns while it explains the nouns by predicates contents. And ‘i/ka’ makes a description statements with a relationship between the subject and the predicate. The meaning of these two particles was confirmed by test sentences exclusive for ‘eun/nun’ or ‘i/ka’ and also by universal sentences for both.
