카시러의 『계몽주의 철학』을 통해 본 종교의 이념

이 글에서는 서양에서의 18세기를 정점으로 하는 계몽주의(啓蒙主義) 시기의 ‘종교의 이념’에 대한 카시러(Ernst Cassirer 1874-1945)의 논의를 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 통해 우리는 카시러가 간접적인 방식으로나마 종교(특히 기독교) 비판을 수행하는 방식과 내용을 확인할 수 있게 될 것이다. 그리고 이러한 논의를 오늘 우리시대 사회 현실 속에 접목할 수 있는 계기로 삼아보고자 한다. 어쨌든 이러한 논의를 통해서 카시러는 사회 속에서의 종교의 기능과 역할, 그리고 종교의 이념을 우리에게 제시해 주고 있다. 필자는 이러한 카시러의 견해를 안내삼아 최근 우리 사회에서 일어나고 있는 종교간 충돌을 해소할 수 있는 해법, 나아가 종교인들 스스로의 신앙과 이성의 바람직한 관계정립의 방식을 찾아보고자 한다. 이런 일련의 논의는 그러니까 좁게는 종교인 스스로 바른 신앙의 길을 찾는 여정이 될 것이고, 넓게는 한국 사회에서 종교의 제자리 찾기의 한 시도라 할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
I think that there are two functions of Religion in human life. One is solidarity that combines society with one community. Another is conflict that struggles Human Being against each other. This is generally two aspects of religion. Concerning with religion, We are interesting with the relationship with Reason and Faith. This article aims to elucidate Cassirer's view about the idea of 18th century Enlightenment. In this paper, firstly, We will deal with general evaluation about the Enlightenment. And then we will discuss deism in England and German during the 18th century. Through that discussion, We will, secondly, find a function and role of religion, and an idea of religion concerning with today's our society. Thus, finally we will pursuit desirable relation with reason and faith in this paper.
