본 연구는 17세기부터 19세기 말 크레올어라는 이름을 발명하기까지 카리브해의 프랑스 식민사회에서 언어포식(glottophagie)의 방식이 어떻게 전개되었는지를 밝힘으로써 식민화와 언어의 명명방식 간의 밀접한 관계를보여 준다. 먼저 17세기 프랑스의 식민지 소앤틸리스에서 크레올어의 생성을 가능케 한 사회구조적 특수성이 무엇이었는지를 개괄한다. 이어 당시 섬에서 사용되었던 말에 대한 편견과 명명 방식을 프랑스어 사전에 의거하여예시하고, 19세기말 이후 언어학이 크레올어의 열등성을 담론화하는 지배논리를 보여 준다. 끝으로 20세기 중반 이후 창조적 언어로서 크레올어에 대한새로운 학술적 시각을 소개함으로써 크레올어를 정체성의 상징으로 삼고자하는 새로운 담론 형성의 가능성을 전망한다.
Abstract
I intend to highlight a close relationship between colonization andthe name of the languages of the colonized population, especiallyshowing how the process ‘glottophagie’ was developed in frenchcolonial societies of Caribbean Region from the 17th century untilthe late 19th century. To do this, the characteristics of the socialstructure and the conditions of creole language emergence in theSmall Antilles in the 17th century. And then we illustrate in thelexical approach the terms designating the spoken language used bythe colonized population, in order to show how racial prejudice andideology of inferiority producted by the colonizers were imported totheses terms and then how the linguistic has justified themscientifically since the late 19th century. Finally, we present a newvision of the creole language as a creative language, diffused fromthe middle of the 20th century and as a symbol of the identity ofCreoles as well.
