『중등교육국문독본(中等教育国文読本)』은 조선총독부가 간행한 ‘국어’(일본어) 교과서이다. 그 중에서 권8에는 『겐지모노가타리』와 관련된 글이 나오는데, 필자의 조사 결과 해당부분은 하가 야이치(芳賀矢一)가 저술한 『국문학역대선(国文学歴代 選)』에서 발췌한 것이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그런데 『중등교육국문독본』과 『국문학역대선』의 해당부분을 비교해 보면, 많은 부분의 생략으로 인해 두 글의 내용이 사뭇 다르다. 『국문학역대선』은 일본 헤이안 시대를 ‘허영심’이 만연한 시대로 규정하고, 『겐지모노가타리』는 그러한 시대상을 사실(寫實)적으로 묘사한 작품으로 전대의 전기적인 작품들과는 다르다는 점을 높이 평가하였다. 그러나 『중등교육국문독본』은 헤이안 시대와 관련된 부정적인 평가를 모두 생략한 채 현실세계를 그대로 옮겼다는 점만을 강조함으로써, 하가 야이 치의 헤이안 시대에 대한 부(負)의 평가가 완전히 은폐되었다.
Abstract
“tyûtôkyôikukokubuntokuhon(中等教育国文読本)” is a Japanese textbook published by the the Japanese Government-General of Korea. Volume 8 contains an introductory text about “The Tale of Genji”. As a result of the investigation, it was found that this sentence was excerpted from the “kokubungakurekidaisen(国文学歴代選)” written by Haga Yaichi . By the way, when comparing the relevant parts of “tyûtôkyôikukoku buntokuhon” and “kokubungakurekidaisen”, it was found that there are many omissions. “kokubungakurekidaisen” defined Japan's Heian period as an era when “Vanity” prevailed, and “The tale of Genji” was highly regarded as a work that portrayed the Heian period as it was. However, “tyûtôkyôikukokubuntokuhon” omitted all negative evaluations regarding the Heian period and emphasized that the real society was copied as it was. By such omission, Haga Yaichi's negative appraisal about the Heian period was completely concealed in “tyûtôkyôikukokubuntokuhon”. The textbook published by the Japanese Government-General of Korea, “tyûtôkyôikukokubuntokuhon”, conceals negative evaluations of Japan's Heian period by editing and emphasizes only the excellence of “Japanese literature”.
