이 논문은 한반도평화체제 구축 및 통일과제와 관련하여 민족주의가 가지는 의의와 그 바람직한 모습 및 역할에 대해 논의해 보는 데 목적이 있다. 논문은 3개의 주제를 중심으로 하여 전개된다. 첫째는 통일 문제에서 민족주의가 가지는 의의는 무엇인가 하는 것이다. 여기에서는 민족주의를 민족중심적 세계관이라는 측면에서 이해하고, 통일문제가 민족주의의 핵심적 관심사일 수밖에 없는 배경을 부각시켰다. 둘째는 한국사 속에서 통일민족주의운동이 실패한 원인을 분석하고 그러나 민족주의는 통일을 위해 꼭 필요한 사상임을 확인하고자 하였다. 여기서는 분단과 전쟁으로 민족을 끌고간 좌우익 지도자들의 반통일적 행태를 살피고 분단후 남북간에 합의된 통일관련 선언에 대해 더듬었다. 셋째로, 통일을 위한 민족주의의 방향과 과제에 대해 논의하고자 하였다. 먼저 분단체제가 70년이상 지속되고 있는 이유를, 분단국가 지도자들의 국가사유화 행태와 남북한 냉전 보수세력의 적대적 공생이라는 관점에서 검토하고, 평화와 통일을 위하여 민족주의가 나아갈 방향에 대해 살폈다. 논문에서는 지금 한반도평화와 통일의 당위성이자 가능성의 근거로 민족주의가 다시 부상하고 있음을 지적하고, 민족주의는 분단과 전쟁 및 70년간의 남북대결 역사에 대해 반성하고 성찰하는 지성이자 분단을 극복하는 동력으로 재조직되어야 한다고 주장하였다. 분단체제에 뿌리내린 기득권구조에 종속되지 않으면서, 민족의 새로운 미래를 개척하는 상상력의 원천이자 에너지원이 되어야 한다는 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to deal with the Korean nationalism in connection with the unification task of Korean Peninsula. The questions are following 3. The first question is what is the relationship of nationalism to the unification task. The second is what are the causes of Korean division and Korean war. The third are the direction and challenges of Korean nationalism for Korean unification. This paper sugest the term of ‘privatization of state’ and ‘hostile symbiosis’ as the terminologies describing the leader’s behavior of the cold war conservatives. This paper criticized that the cold war conservatives occupied the Korean state privately and used their enemy North Korea and communist crisis for regime security. The author insists that nationalism is now standing out as the grounds of the possibility and justification for unification, and it must function as a source of imagination and power for pioneering the future of the nation.
