이 논문에서는 남북분단과 6･25전쟁을 통일민족주의의 실패라는 차원에서 파악하고, 해방후 통일민족주의가 실패한 과정과 원인 및 결과에 대해 논의하였다. 논문의 2장에서는 먼저 실패가 초래한 결과에 대해 살폈다. 특히 좌우익대립과 분단이 동족상잔의 전쟁으로 연결되어 민족 성원 6명중 한명이 죽고 다치는 참화를 결과하였음을 지적하고, 휴전 이후에도 남북간에 소모적 대결과 긴장이 지속되고 있다는 사실에 주목하게 하였다. 3장에서는 해방공간에서 좌우합작운동과 남북협상운동 등 통일민족주의 운동이 실패한 과정을 더듬었다. 통일운동이 실패하여 남북에 서로를 부정하는 두 개 국가가 수립으로 이어지고 동족상잔의 전운이 짙어지는 과정을 살폈다. 논문의 4장에서는 통일민족주의가 실패한 원인을 네가지 차원에서 살폈다. 첫째로 든 것은 외세의 압력이다. 한반도를 자국에 유리하게 질서지우려는 미국과 소련의 상호작용이 통일민족주의의 좌절을 결과하였다. 두 번째로는 반통일적 세력들의 분단책동이다. 특히 친일･부일의 과거를 가진 세력과, 공산주의-반공산주의에 관념적으로 현실적으로 동조한 세력들이 통일민족주의를 제지하고 분단과 대결을 부추겼다. 셋째로는 통일민족주의가 갖고있던 취약성도 지적하였다. 대중수준의 민족의식 또는 정치의식 미숙과 엘리뜨 수준에서의 정치력빈곤을 지적하였다. 마지막으로 살핀 것은 분단으로 이끌었던 좌우 지도자들이 보여준 반통일적 리더십에 대한 것이다. 권력독점에 집착했던 지도자들의 독선적이고 독점지향적인 행태가 양보와 협조를 불가능하게 만들고 통일을 저해하였으며, 분단과 전쟁을 유발하였음을 지적하였다. 휴전후 64년간 남북간에 대화없는 대결이 펼쳐져오고 있는 것은, 이들 독선적이고 독점지향적인 극단세력들이 남북의 국가를 장악하면서 적대적 공생관계를 지속해온 데에 원인이 있다고 보았다.
Abstract
This Paper discusses on the process, causes and effects of the failure of unification-nationalism in the Korean liberation era. In the second chapter this paper searches the effects which the failure of unification-nationalism brought about. In the next chapter this paper studies on the failing process of unification-nationalism such as Left-Right Wing cooperation movement and South & North parley movement. Finally this paper analizes the frustration causes of the unification movement on four dimensions. The first factor is the pressures from USA & USSR which intended to manage Korea on the benefit of their country. The second factor were the maneuvers of the Pro-Japanese forces and pro & anti-communist camp whose intersts were confronted to unification based on Left-Right Wing cooperation. The third factor was the weakness of nationalism especially on the lebel of elite & mass. The forth factor was the immorality of political leaders who leaded Korea into division and war. This paper think the forth factor as the most important reason. The self-righteous behaviors of extreme left-right camp leaders made concession & cooperation impossible. And they hindered unification and cause the Korean division and war. The cold war powers of South & North Korea continues hostile symbiosis and maintain battles without conversation until now, 64 years after the ceasefire.
